Another Tata Nano has caught fire, this time the Nano that caught fire belonged to a gentleman in Ahmedabad.

Mr. Vipul Jani, the owner is a resident of Ahmedabad and claims that the incident happened in the afternoon when he was driving back home.

According to the Economic Times, this is what he had to say - “My car caught fire all of a sudden near the Shivranjani crossing, while I was on my way home. A police complaint has been registered in this regard. The rear portion of the car, where the engine is located caught fire. I had purchased the car on May 1 last year.”

The news comes a day after Tata unveiled their Nano based city car the Tata Pixel in the Geneva Motor Show 2011. A series of such incidents were reported last year and Tata who has been busy putting out fires all over the country (pun intended!) must not very happy. (Tata gave a clean chit to Nano last year and offered various warranty based and other incentives to potential buyers and present owners.)

This will now be the 8th such incident of a Nano catching fire in India. No deaths have taken place till date.

Maybe it’s time Tata really looked into its dream car and maybe, just maybe it is time for our Government to put in place an organization similar to the NHTSA in the US, to protect its customers from such incidents.
